Four Favourite Things, Floral Motif Sampler Finish, Basket Case Near Finish from Canadian Needle Nana

The Wooden House in July Showing Hydrangeas
We had to set the alarm twice last week which is just so odd for us. One morning we had workers coming to work on concrete and stones and the other morning, we had a vet check up appointment for Ned.  He goes to the doctor more often than I do. Anyway, such is the life of the retired and grateful I am for every minute of it.

Four things I love in this photo below...my tabletop Ott Lite, my Mama Bird mug which holds a lot of coffee or tea, my ...

Three Thrift Store Finds, Wheel Within a Wheel Block, Floral Motif Sampler from Canadian Needle Nana

The American Robins love the bird bath. This is a young one who just wouldn't leave it one day last week. Despite his grumpy look, he took such enjoyment it put a smile on my face watching hm.

I had this very odd thing happen to my finger on Thursday last.  Felt a searing pain and saw a blood vessel swell very suddenly in my right pointer finger. As I was thinking I need to get to the hospital, it stopped as quickly as it had started.  I now have a reddish bruise in the spot.
 Google has told ...

Mistake #3, Lilacs in Bloom, Tiramisu, Floral Motif Sampler from Canadian Needle Nana

So happy to be writing a Thursday things we like post.  Here is something I adore...Ned is now about 20 in dog years, fully grown, but he still tries to get in my lap. He will balance himself in the strangest poses just to stay for a little bit and get a good rub.

Love the flowers that are blooming just now here in my corner of the world. This is a lilac bouquet I had at the farm. Though in bloom, my lone lilac tree here does not produce such fine flowers as the three at the farm ...

Irish Fame, Shopping, Cakes, Cross Stitch, Special Moments from Canadian Needle Nana

Of note this week...

A little bit of Irish- I spent a lot of time with William's wonderful words in younger days and also off and on throughout my life. A key 20th century poet and Nobel Prize winner and Irish as well.  I especially love his phrasing.

You may have seen this popular quote below sometime. I remember writing it in my diary when I was not old and gray, both of which I now am.

When you are old and gray and full of sleep, and nodding by the fire, take down this book and slowly read ...

Scrappy Hand Stitched Needle Book from Canadian Needle Nana

Thank you all for the interest in items from the last post. Answers to the questions I received...

January's cake: Daughter Beth made Rock Recipe's Orange Velvet Cake With Buttercream Frosting and the recipe is at that link. She says she has made almost all of Barry's Velvet cakes and they all turned out well...we've eaten quite a few of them and can certainly agree!

Her colourful wall is made of water coloured with food colouring and frozen. She used this sort of brick sized plastic container to freeze the water.

And here is the ...

Calming Winter Walks, Colourful Icy Walls, DMC #3801 in Herringbone Stitch, Pretty Flowers from Canadian Needle Nana

The word for the start of February is SNOW and lots of it. I've been shovelling and shuffling about the trails. So pretty. Thursday's walk was through a winter wonderland. I kept stopping to look up,  gaze around at how beautiful the forest looked. Despite it is a bold look, and stark too with the brilliant white against all the black looking branches, I felt it was very calming.

And the view through the window on the back stairwell always makes me stop and admire...in all the four seasons.

We enjoyed another delicious cake from Daughter. This ...

Stove Top Macaroni and Cauliflower, Floral Motif Sampler, Scrappy Dresdens, Yuletide Blanket from Canadian Needle Nana

Monday morning's kitchen window storm view.

There were numerous accidents, three of which involved fatalities. I'll never understand how things stay open here no matter the weather.

We are completely cleared out now and the temperatures have plummeted -27C this morning; however, the sunshine today is most welcome. I did three bouts of shoveling keeping our steps and the veranda clear and was so happy that the old arms held up and no soreness. Ironically, I'm actually having little twinges in my right arm from the crocheting. Nearing the last round of my Yuletide Blanket.  It is ...
